Leo da Vinci – Mission Mona Lisa
A film about the enigmatic and fascinating figure of young Leonardo da Vinci, with his world of incredible discoveries, amazing inventions, plain old fun, and above all his great dream: being able to fly.
In this adventure with Leo there are new and old friends, among which a strong and determined Lisa, that young Leo has a crush on without even realizing it, and the funny Lollo. There is also a bunch of dangerous pirates that use strong-arm tactics to reach their goal: get the treasure buried under the sea next to the island of Montecristo. Thanks to his futuristic inventions, most of all the diving suit, Leo finds the treasure first… But the pirates won’t just stand around and watch!
“Leo da Vinci: Mission Mona Lisa” is an animated adventure that portrays the famous painter and inventor as a young adult. Da Vinci (voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch) uses his genius to help his crush get money after her family’s farm is destroyed (their romance, including a kiss, is part of the story).
Because this is a historical piece, young children may not understand that such contraptions as a cart that moves itself, a primitive plane, a parachute and an underwater breathing apparatus were revolutionary for the time — but the idea that the inventions are fun/cool/smart is clear. The movie also serves as an introduction to some of Da Vinci’s most famous artworks: the Mona Lisa and Vitruvian Man (without the nudity).
